| Volunteer Coordinator |
This person works with the
Staff Volunteer Liaison to insure that all individuals who
have volunteered are being utilized. This person also
keeps track of all volunteer hours and reports those hours
to the Staff Volunteer Liaison. |
| Media Center |
The Media Specialist need
help with checking books in and out of the Media Center.
Additionally, volunteers will help re-shelf books. This is an
area where the hours are flexible, as help is needed
throughout the day. |
| Computer Lab |
Class helpers volunteer in
the lab during class time to assist the teacher in answering
questions and helping students to complete assigned
activities. |
| Tutoring |
Helping students in areas
where they have difficulty, including reading, writing, and
mathematics. Volunteers would be working one on one
with students. |
| Yearbook |
Work with the Yearbook
Committee in all aspects of putting the yearbook
together. This includes photography, layout, sales, and
collecting money. |
| Hospitality |
Volunteers will be called
upon during various times of the year to provide
refreshments for Teacher Appreciation Luncheons (twice a
year), and other PTA events that require refreshments.
This can be done after school hours. |
| Spring and Fall Fundraisers |
Volunteers needed to develop
and distribute flyers regarding fund Raising specifics;
coordinate with teachers the collection of money and order
forms; count the money received
from the fundraiser; and distribute the products when
they arrive. Best for someone who is available during
the day. |
| Guest Reader |
Guest Reader Day usually
occurs twice a year. Volunteers are needed to read in
each classroom. This event usually takes place from
2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon. |
| PTA Membership |
You would be discussing
issues related to the school. Executive Board meetings
are held once a month in the evening and General Membership
meetings are held four times a school year, also in the
evening. Great for people who want to get involved,
but cannot come into school during the day. |
| Vision & Hearing Testing |
Volunteers escort
students to and from their classrooms and also assist where
needed. Testing takes place during school hours. |
| Book Fair |
Volunteers are needed to help
run the book fair in both the fall and spring. You
would help students find books and collect money. |
| 5th Grade Promotion |
Parents of fourth graders and
younger are requested to help with the promotion ceremony,
particularly in the areas of decorations and refreshments.
Fifth grade promotion generally takes place on one of the last days of
the school year. |
| Multimedia Services |
Volunteers are needed to go
to the multimedia facility in Crofton to make posters, die
cuts, bind books, and do laminating for teachers and staff. |
| School Store (PBIS) |
Volunteers are needed to work
in the PBIS School Store. Students spend the spots they earn for
good behavior throughout the week at the store once a week.
The Store is generally opened one day a week. The Book
Store also accepts the donation of small items to be "sold"
at the store. |
| Special Projects |
At times, teachers or other
staff may need help on special projects. Projects can
be long-term or short-term in duration and may be completed
during and/or after school hours. |
| 100 Book Club/25 Novel Club |
Volunteers are needed to
count and record books read by students throughout the year
for the 100 Book Club (Grades K-3) and the 25 Novel Club
(Grades 4-5). Information is recorded on Fridays.

| Chessie Book Club |
Volunteers are needed to aid
Chessie Book Club members (Grades K-2) choose appropriate
books and quiz them on the books they have already read.
This program operates before school begins, Monday through
Thursday from 8:20 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. |
